Mission: to promote reading as the foundation for a successful life through social-emotional support, STEAM, Cultural Enrichment and a partnership with parents to equip the whole child and disarm behavioral issues that may arise in part for young people who are not strong readers.

Vision: Destined Inc. envisions a community where every child has access to extra-curricular activities infused heavily with a reading program to position children to be lifelong learners, responsible adults, and read to meet the demands of the workforce.

Youth Mentoring Program:

The Destined Inc. Read 2 Succeed Program empowers students in grades 9–12 to serve as paid youth mentors while building leadership, career exploration, and employability skills. Trained in the Science of Reading and to lead It’s Electric Workshops developed with the Southern Sustainability Institute, mentors provide meaningful academic support.

Younger youth benefit academically, socially, and emotionally by building strong reading skills, forming positive friendships, and gaining confidence. With peer mentors supporting them in reading and life, young people are encouraged to demonstrate the best versions of themselves in a safe, supportive, and inspiring environment.

Through generous funding through Athens Clarke County ARPA /Athens Chamber of Commerce Achieve Program. All Clarke County students receive a reduced rate of $250 for the entire program Summer 2026.

Join Destined Inc. as we celebrate 27 years of guiding young people to love reading. This is a bi-annual event designed to share how important literacy is for the lifelong success of our students, but it is also the time to network, let your hair down and groove to the sounds of the East Side Players which include the co-founders of the organization, the next generation of Destined leadership and friends. The funds are used for programming, parenting workshops, outreach, and our memorial Co-Founder Stacie S Smith Scholarshiops for graduating Destined participants and Youth Mentors.
